Everyone already secretly knows that Anna Wintour is out to rule the world, and for the most part we’re ok with that. The first pawn in her grand plan toward total domination? The White House.
While Republicans battle each other to see who can get the craziest candidate through the primaries, the Vogue editrix is pulling her weight in the fashion world to make sure Barack Obama stays at the top of the food chain.
Fashion and politics, you say? How can that be?
Here’s how. It’s called—ready for it?—Runway to Win—and it’s Wintour’s latest fundraising effort to get Bam re-elected. The new Vogue initiative has enlisted the help of 22 designers to create exclusive products to be sold online at runwaytowin.com, with all proceeds benefiting Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, WWD reports.
Cute right? America’s editor-in-chief joins forces with America’s commander-in-chief to fight for a better, more glamorous U.S. of A. Regardless of where your political allegiances lie, you know you’re kind of excited to see what these designers will come up with–we’re talking superstars like Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, Jason Wu, Rachel Roy…the list goes on.
It’s no secret that the fashion industry leans to the left. Anna Wintour has been a long-time advocate of the President, hosting $30,000 per-person fundraisers and the like at her own house. Still, I always get a tad bit wary when fashionheads and celebrities publicly take sides on things like this. Because when Marc Jacobs tells you to like something, you pretty much jump on the bandwagon and like it, right?
Not that we’re all a bunch of style minions with no brains of our own. I doubt anyone would sell their vote for a limited edition t-shirt…but it never hurts to check up on the issues and pay less attention to the kitschy accessories before election day comes around.
